My latest interview with Jillian.



M: If you could live in a movie, which movie would it be and why?

J: Honestly, I really think it would be Blue Velvet by David Lynch. Because of how he portrays peoples front's, how you would first see them. How you would see their front door, but whats going on inside is really fucked up and bizarre. It could really happen to anyone, and its so bizarre. Plus I just wanna live in the 50's.

M:Do building's have personalities?

J: No. I honestly see buildings as an poor excuse for an art form. Because there's only one form it can really be, and that's straight up and down. You can add a statue, you can add a dome, but it's the same thing repeated. I think they have history and purpose, not personality.

M: Do you think our generation should start getting angry?

J: I think our generation is angry, but in a spoiled brat way. Like "My parent's didn't love me enough", every one's issues. People need to shut up, and think about what they're saying before they say it. Every body's angry and whining about everything, when they should just do something about it. Every ones quick to point a finger at the parents.

M: Do you regret anything that you may have been attracted to in the past?

J: My ex-boyfriend. Are we kidding? Worst decision that I've made in my entire life. Desperation at it's peak. PERIOD.

M: What's your favorite book?

J: I'm gonna go with Sirens Of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut. I don't know if I could explain why, its just so mind fucking. Probably the most brilliant piece of literature that I've ever read. It kept me lingering and pondering.

M: If you could go on a speaker that would transmit a message across the universe, what would you say?

J: Something that would leave an imprint of myself behind. I would probably talk out Dazzle by Siouxsie And The Banshees. "Dazzle it's a glittering prize....dazzle it's a glittering prize" (hahah). I would do that because classical music is probably whats going to be transmitting the most. Or "Help! We're dieing!"

M: Does anything from your childhood stand out to you the most?

J: Yes. Most of my childhood I don't remember because I've blocked it out. And that sticks out to me the most when people say childhood.


This discussion and photo shoot with Jill was very fun and interesting. Jillian is a person with much depth, and I found her to be a great subject to photograph.

I chose this one photo in particular because it really held a lot of emotion for me, I think it says many things about Jillian. It spoke to me, looking at this photo tells me a story. And being a personal friend of Jill's, I'd say this accurately depicts the person that I see in several different ways.

Jack Plotnick

One day, a couple months back, I picked up a brilliantly funny movie entitled " Girls Will Be Girls" staring Jack Plotnick as the lead role of Evie Harris. I could go into more detail about the film, but I highly suggest picking it up if you haven't already seen it. Words simply cannot describe the comic genius.

I'm going to start from the present and work my way back. As I sit here looking at my copy of Girls Will Be Girls, I look at the cover that Jack had signed for me " To Marc, "As-tro-phys-icist!!" Love you, Evie." (You'll understand the reference if you've seen the movie). When I had picked this film up, never in a million years did I think I would be photographing this very talented individual. thinking back, its pretty surreal.

When I contacted Jack, I was absolutely thrilled, to put it mildly, that he would let me sit in on one of his workshops that he was holding for actors in New York City.

When I approached Ripley Grier Studios, I walked into the room, and there was Jack, talking to the actors, circulating around the room, getting ready for the class. This was exactly what I wanted to shoot. Since my aesthetic tends to be more on the natural side when it comes to photography, photographing Jack not being an actor, not being on stage or posed, was absolutely ideal for me.

I chose this photo in particular because this would be the closet visual representation of a mental snapshot from the experience. A simple candid photo of Jack standing next to the scripts that he was handing out to the actors as they entered the room. And as I entered the room, that was the very first thing I saw Jack doing. Aside from the fact that I just simply adore this photo.

It was an amazing opportunity, and a wonderful experience. Many thanks to the talented Jack Plotnick for allowing me to photograph this event.

Jaron Nelson

Before this photoshoot I did with Jaron, I asked him a series of questions. My objective during this session was to see if you can look at a photo, and imagine this individual having certain respones to the questions asked. And while the thoughts are still in the subcontious mind, try to see if anything comes through.

M: How do you feel about the world?

J: I feel like the world is too restrained, people should be more free. It's taboo. There needs to be more communication. The world is too closed. Cycles and circles, everyone should just keep going straight.

M: Do people scare you?

J: It depends on how big they are (haha). Why would you be scared unless you don't know. You change your fear into curiosity, its not scary if you know what you're afraid of.

M:What inspires you?

J: Everything. Not so much inspired, but inspired by the bad that can be changed to the better.

M: How would you describe your style?

J: Mature, put together. I don't think you can explain style. Some influence from society. No matter what you think society has some affect on your style. Organizing closets would be my dream job.

M: What do you think of New Jersey?

J: It fucking sucks. But you can become apart of it, or let it over power you. Not a good place to find piece of mind. Very mean hearted people. Anger should only come out when you have to defend yourself.

M: What album would be the soundtrack to your life?

J: Kid A by Radiohead, or Trainwreck by Boys Night Out. Attack by Sigor Ros. The Blue Print by Jay-Z.
